The goal of this research study is to assess a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique called Water Exchange MRI and determine if it can reliably reflect the activity of the brain’s glymphatic system — a process that helps clear waste from the brain.
By participating, you are contributing to the development and validation of advanced MRI techniques that could improve early detection and monitoring of brain health across the Alzheimer’s disease continuum.
What will I need to do in this study?
If you qualify and choose to participate, you’ll complete two visits about two months apart.
• First visit: Approximately 1 hour of MRI scanning.
• Second visit: About two months later, about 30 minutes of MRI scanning.
• Neuropsychological questionnaires and a health intake survey (about 1 hour) may be completed at either study visit.
• Additionally, an optional blood draw (about 30 minutes) may be completed at either study visit.
Note: The study is expected to conclude by 10/30/2026.
Individuals who meet the following criteria:
• Adults age 55 or older
• Able to undergo MRI and neuropsychological testing
• Retains decision-making capacity at initial visit
• Either be cognitively unimpaired or have a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), or Alzheimer’s disease
• Adequate vision and hearing for completing neuropsychological questionnaires
• Stable (no change) medications for at least four weeks (if applicable)
Study Compensation
If you meet the above participant eligibility criteria and agree to take part in this research study, you will be paid up to $300 for your time and effort as follows:
Visit 1: $100 (MRI)
Visit 2: $50 (MRI)
Visit 1 or 2: $100 (neuropsychological questionnaires)
Visit 1 or 2: $50 (blood draw – optional)
