What is the Gut-Pro Study?
The gut microbiome is the home for the many diverse microorganisms that support positive and negative health outcomes in humans. The gut is constantly changing, with research showing many lifestyle factors contributing to changes in the microbiome population. Certain species have been associated with Alzheimer’s disease populations. This new study will test the ability of using probiotics to support the microbiome in individuals with or at risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
What will I be asked to do?
- Take probiotic supplements or placebo
- Complete questionnaires.
- Complete blood draw
- Undergo cognitive testing
- Undergo physical exams
- Provide stool samples
Will I be paid?
Participants will be given up to $660 for completing all the procedures.
Who can volunteer?
- At least 60 years old
- Cognitively healthy, MCI, or early AD dementia
- Can complete a phone AND in-person screening process with cognitive testing
- Has a study partner available for questionnaires
