Nathaniel Chin, MD, and Sterling Johnson, PhD, joined the GeriPal podcast to discuss why dementia in older adults is often more complex than once thought. Rather than being caused by Alzheimer’s disease alone, many people have multiple brain conditions, or mixed dementia, at the same time, including Limbic-predominant Age-related TDP-43 Encephalopathy (LATE), vascular disease and Lewy body disease. They explain how newer tests can help identify these different causes of cognitive decline and how this information may influence diagnosis, treatment decisions and the use of emerging Alzheimer’s therapies.
