The WAGD (Wisconsin Aging and Geriatric Dog) Study

The purpose of the WAGD study is to study how dogs and cohabiting humans age together, to determine if shared modifiable lifestyle and environmental factors in dogs and humans could relate to healthy aging.

This research study involves

  • A baseline visit
    • Dog: physical examinations including blood draw, behavior tests of senses and memory, tests of vision/hearing
    • Human: completion of a questionnaire, collection of samples from the home (drinking water, floor wipe), a blood draw
  • A second visit 1.5-2 years after baseline
    • Dog: similar to baseline
    • Human: a follow-up questionnaire
  • Data will be shared from participants’ WRAP/ADRC visits for the purposes of matching dog and human health trajectories

Compensation

  • $30 per visit
  • At each visit we will share a dog health report and standard blood/urine test results for the dog’s veterinary medical record
Participation Eligibility

Live with at least one dog
