Two research participants who are involved in studies at the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC), as well as center investigators and clinicians, were featured in a national clinical trials promotional campaign sponsored by the National Institute on Aging (NIA). The NIA released four campaign videos this week in celebration of Clinical Trials Awareness Week (May 13-17, 2019) and in anticipation of Clinical Trials Day (May 20, 2019). The video series, "Why I Participate in Alzheimer's Research," features participants from all walks of life who discuss what motivates them to participate in studies and how research staff support them. The videos are intended to be shared as part of engagement and recruitment efforts for clinical studies.

You can watch all the videos at the NIH YouTube channel, where you will find playlists of four long videos and four short videos

The two videos filmed in Wisconsin are embedded below.

Keretha’s Story — Keretha lost her mother to dementia, and she discusses how Alzheimer’s disease doesn’t just impact a person, but an entire family. She hopes to set an example for increased participation by the African American community, who have a higher risk for developing dementia.

Will’s Story — When both of Will’s parents developed dementia, he and his wife moved back into his childhood home to be full-time caregivers. He discusses how participating in a clinical trial helped him take better care of himself physically and receive emotional support from other caregivers in his community.
