Nearly 40 students, trainees, and faculty members from across the UW-Madison campus presented scientific posters on their research and projects surrounding Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and related disorders during the 2017 Alzheimer’s Disease & Related Disorders Research Day. The poster session was sponsored by the Asthana Family Alzheimer’s Disease Memorial Fund. Awards were presented to the following poster authors:
- Best Fellow, Post Doc, or Research Scientist Poster: Kimberly Mueller, PhD, for “Signs of Early Cognitive Decline in Connected Speech: Evidence from the Wisconsin Registry for Alzheimer’s Prevention (WRAP)”
- Best Graduate Student/Research Specialist Poster: Sara Berman, BS, for “4D-Flow in the Cerebral Arteries Provides Unique Information about Cerebrovascular Health Beyond Ischemic Lesion Burden and Significantly Predicts Cognitive Outcomes”
- Best Undergraduate Student Poster: Brittany Derynda for “The Relationship Between Sleep Quality and Brain White Matter Health in Middle-aged Adults”
The Alzheimer’s Disease & Related Disorders Research Day is an annual event designed to encourage collaboration and promote scientific thought among faculty, students, and researchers from a wide range of disciplines across the UW-Madison campus. This year’s program welcomed keynote speaker Dr. Paul Aisen, founding director of the University of Southern California (USC) Alzheimer’s Therapeutic Research Institute (ATRI). ATRI’s mission is to accelerate the development of effective therapies for Alzheimer’s disease.
