Veterans carry a higher risk for Alzheimer's disease than the general population. Dr. Cynthia Carlsson, a geriatrician at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital and an Alzheimer's disease researcher, is PI on the BRAVE study, which aims to determine whether a prescription-strength dose of fish oil can stop or delay Alzheimer's disease-related brain changes in veterans. A recent article in The Capital City Hues describes some of the reasons for veterans' increased risk and Dr. Carlsson's research.

"The Sacrifice May Not End with Military Service" appeared in the April 22, 2019, issue of The Capital City Hues.
