All are invited to the Solomon Carter Fuller Brain Health Brunch on March 16 at Wyndham Garden Hotel, 2969 Cahill Main in Fitchburg. The event will feature a free community brunch, research updates, memory screenings, wellness fair, healthy cooking demo, and more. The "Amazing Grace" Chorus, comprised of people living with memory impairment and caregivers, will perform during the program. Special guest Dr. Carl V. Hill of the National Institute of Health will present a keynote speech on healthy aging, brain health, and Alzheimer’s disease in the African American community. This event is free and open to the public.

African Americans are twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease compared to Caucasians. The Solomon Carter Fuller event is held each year to build awareness of Alzheimer's disease in the African American community and provide education and resources to encourage a brain healthy lifestyle. The day is named in honor of Solomon Carter Fuller, the nation’s first African American psychiatrist and a pioneer in Alzheimer’s disease research.

This year's event will begin with an optional Fun Walk. Physical activity is an integral part of body and brain health. The 3-mile Fun Walk from 7:00 -9:00 a.m. around the event venue is sponsored by Alzheimer’s & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin (ADAW) and Black Men Run, a non-profit dedicated to promoting physical activity in African American men.

The Solomon Carter Fuller Brain Health Brunch event continues from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with free confidential memory screenings, workshops for caregivers, and a wellness fair. This event is hosted by the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and ADAW, with sponsorship from the Wisconsin Geriatric Education Center.
